Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Minister Tung Chen-yuan attended the 2nd Board Meeting of the 12th World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce Junior Chapter (WTCCJC) held in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. on March 25. In his speech, he exhorted the young entrepreneur representatives in attendance to pass on power to create a win-win situation and combine with Taiwan while having eyes on the world.

Minister Tung said that since coming to office he has attended every major event held by the WTCCJC in person, not missing one if he remembers correctly. His main policy themes since taking up office have always been "professionalization" and "rejuvenation", and young entrepreneurs play a key role. He said that young entrepreneurs are the most importance inheritance force of Taiwanese entrepreneurs worldwide. The OCAC will continue to actively provide policy guidance and assistance to young entrepreneurs.

Minister Tung gave the example of the first Global Young Entrepreneur Stars Selection held in 2021 by the OCAC. Many winners were in attendance. The OCAC employs professional consultants to provide one-on-one guidance. This kind of competition lays the ground for more young entrepreneurs to become models.

Minister Tung also emphasized that in the economic development process, talent is the key factor. In the last two years Taiwan's economy has boomed and is in urgent need of talent. The economic growth rate in 2020 was 3.36% and follow by it was 6.45% in 2021; GDP has increased by NT$2 trillion in two years. The government of Taiwan also warmly invites overseas Taiwanese entrepreneurs and young entrepreneurs to return to invest or work in Taiwan.

The OCAC is willing to provide more systematic services and resources to assist young entrepreneurs. Taiwan offers many opportunities in business at present. If these resources are taken advantage of, enterprises can develop around the world. Young entrepreneurs are the best partners and contacts.

In the last two years, in collaboration with national level research units, the OCAC has established two service programs to bring together research units and academic-industry cooperation, namely, the Industry Upgrading and Technical Service Program and the University-Industry Little League Program. At present, the former combines 11 research units, including the Industrial Technology Research Institute, Institute for Information Industry and the National Applied Research Laboratories. The latter cooperates with 35 universities. These have been carefully planned by the OCAC to combine Taiwan's technology R&D capability to guide Taiwanese entrepreneurs and young entrepreneurs to increase their international competitiveness.
