The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) announced the results of the 2021 Global Overseas Compatriot School Student and Overseas Compatriot Student in Taiwan Mandarin Speaking Competition, an artificial intelligence using and month-long competition. The first place winners of the four competition categories, Overseas Compatriot School Student Basic, Overseas Compatriot School Student Advanced, Overseas Compatriot Student in Taiwan Basic, and Overseas Compatriot Student in Taiwan Advanced, were: I am JTS Champion from Jakarta Taipei School, Indonesia, New Youth Beautiful Young Girl Warrior from Shuang Wen Academy Network, US, Ma Jant Hway from Chung Shan Industrial & Commercial School, and Oon Zhi Jing from National Cheng-chi University, respectively.
The second to fifth place winners in the Overseas Compatriot School Student Basic category were Real Myna Bird of Lexington Chinese School in Boston, US, Big Bad Wolf of Yu Cheng Senior High School in Myanmar, THL Team of Instituto Hwa Shin in Argentina, and Hope of Yu Cheng Senior High School in Myanmar; the second to fifth place in the Advanced category were The Big Gecko of Instituto Hwa Shin in Argentina, Freedom Heros from Northern Virginia Experimental Chinese School, Virginia, US, F3 of Instituto Hwa Shin and Fruity of Tzu Chi Academy, Irvine, California, US.
The top four places in the Overseas Compatriot Student in Taiwan Basic category were taken by the students of Chung Shan Industrial & Commercial School in Kaohsiung. Apart from Ma Jant Hway who took first place, Kang Jie-hua, Lin Jun-le and Sun Hao-hsuan finished in second to fourth, and Chen Ke-jiao of National Overseas Chinese Senior High School in fifth place. In the Advanced category, the winners of second to fifth place were Liu Ying-hsi of National Taiwan University, Cui Hua-qian of National Tsinghua University, Chen Ke-shan of National Kaohsiung Normal University, and Lin Wei-le of National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences.
There were 246 teams (738 students) from 55 overseas compatriot schools in 19 countries and 1,039 overseas compatriot students from 73 schools in Taiwan participated in the competition this year, giving a total of 1,777 contestants. The top five teams/individuals in each category will receive a certificate and prize money from the OCAC.
