To provide in-service training for Mandarin teachers in Europe, Africa, and the Philippines, Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) organized an Online Training Program for Mandarin Teachers in the above mentioned areas in the hope of helping them improve their professional skills.

The event was held at NTNU (National Taiwan Normal University) from April 12th to May 2nd. 81 Mandarin teachers from different countries participated in this program, including South Africa, the Kingdom of Eswatini, Belgium, Austria, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

Given that the synchronous online learning is beneficial to sharing the online resources and information as well as encouraging teaching demonstration and discussion among the participants, the aforementioned program focuses on increasing Mandarin teachers' competencies in blended teaching skills with the following topics: Educational Resources, Teaching Skills, and Integrated Applications.

All the participants have expressed that they benefited greatly from that three-week program. With Mandarin teaching and communication skills enlarged, these Mandarin teachers have become more confident in Mandarin promotion in the future.

Lin, Hong-Ying, director of the Department of Education Affairs of OCAC, hosted the closing ceremony of this remarkable event, where he appreciated the participants' dedication to Mandarin education. He expected the Mandarin teachers to share the information learned in that program with their students or encourage them to pursue advanced Mandarin study in Taiwan.

"OCAC integrates the resources of universities to hold a variety of training programs online in response to the post-epidemic era, for instance, Online MA Program in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, and all audio-visual materials of our Training Program for Mandarin Teachers are available on the HuayuWorld.org of OCAC," added Lin, Hong-Ying.
