Successor of The Roaring Construction Company

Ho Team Construction Co., Ltd. is an award-winning, well-known, wholly foreign-owned enterprise registered in Vietnam by Council member of the OCAC Chien Chih Ming. The second generation entrepreneur Chien Tzu Yun, also the 2021 awardee of the Global Young Entrepreneur Star Selection, has secured her successor position of her father's business with competence and team support.

Tall, decisive and classy, Chien Tzu Yun is the eldest daughter and the successor of chairman Chien Chih Ming of Ho Team Construction Company - the winner of the 26th Model of Entrepreneurs Award and the 20th National Outstanding Award of SMEs. With inherited perseverance, in spite of the special assistant to Chairman role she was offered, Tzu Yun requested to start her full-time career at Ho Team from the bottom. With insights of integrating modern trends and improving company efficiency, Tzu Yun implemented digital transformation, promoted positive culture, strengthened the professional core, and created competitive advantages of Ho Team; her contribution was very well-regarded. After demonstrating her abilities hands-on, Tzu Yun returned to her father's side as the Vice General Manager. She is now assisting with business development at the core of the enterprise, expanding the scope of professional services offered by the company, and advocating natural energy utilization and smart systems. She was awarded the first "Global Young Entrepreneur Star" by the Overseas Community Affairs Council this year. Re-evolving with the Tiger ("Ho") team and expanding the reputation of the quality construction brand, Tzu Yun continues to create new fascinating chapters on her road to succession.

Tzu Yun Chien was born in Tainan city in 1991. Growing up in a loving environment of three generations under the same roof, she expresses her admiration and deep gratitude for her parents. To develop his career, Tzu Yun's father went with Formosa Plastics Group to Vietnam where he demonstrated his professionalism during the company's setup in the new territory. In 2007, with the support of clients (shareholders), Ho Team Construction Company was established in Dong Nai Province of Vietnam. Throughout the years, Ho Team has built a strong reputation and position in local construction industry. It has been certified by the Ministry of Construction Management in Vietnam for Class 1 Design and Construction Works, and it has obtained multiple ISO certifications. Tzu Yun worked alongside her father, while she completed her master's thesis and worked as the special assistant to the chairman. During this time, she gained valuable knowledge and experience in every stage of construction projects, which became important steppingstones to her success.

As her father worked overseas, Tzu Yun's mother stayed in Taiwan to take care of the family while managing her own luxury housing business, integrating development, design, construction and sales. Over the years, Tzu Yun's mother managed her multiple roles well. Tzu Yun is grateful to her wise and devoted mother and the entrepreneurial father for providing thorough ‘"pre-employment training" for herself and her younger sister. She learned all aspects of luxury housing while working at her mother's company: from design, building materials, branding, to advertising skills. The marketing technique of "conveying advantages within the limited information received by the targeted audience" was extremely helpful for expanding the scope of services offered and developing business strategies.

Tzu Yun's interest and desire to pursue a career in the construction industry grew stronger and stronger while working as her father's special assistant. She pondered over how to undertake the business, which has been built upon her father's professionalism, and to create more profits - i.e. by identifying the "trend"! Therefore, she chose to study in a construction institute specializing in sustainable green energy, engineering technology, architectural planning, and design aesthetics. In 2016, after receiving her master's degree, Tzu Yun immediately started working in Vietnam. With the belief of "If you want to reach the peak, you must endure the pain; if you want to wear a crown, you must bear the weight", she requested a job transfer from special assistant position to entry level.

The Ops Administrative department of Ho Team Construction is responsible for construction material control, pricing and cost estimation, information management and customer service. To optimize the process of delivering construction projects successfully and on schedule, Tzu Yun examined all the construction projects completed in recent years and compiled the process of setting up factories in Vietnam with all relevant information. She then introduced digital transformation in which all information related to project progress, planning, material management and quality testing, design changes, etc. became fully digitized, organized and stored in cloud systems, breaking through space and time constraints to precisely control project progress and quality. Such painless transformation was well-received internally and by all clients. Tzu Yun carried on with the cross management model of the organization, and for each department specifically, she standardized operational procedures and redefined the KPIs. KPI management effectively improved efficiency across all departments and cut down management costs. With standardization, the operational progress of each department became fully transparent, allowing problems to be discovered and resolved immediately, reducing the cost of inter-departmental communications. Roles and responsibilities were clear, empowering team members to do better, boosting operational efficiency by reducing confusion and redundancies. The positive workplace culture encouraged collaboration between the teams as everyone worked closely together to achieve organizational goals.

"All the coincidences in life are destined!" In 2017, with climate change and the dry season being considerably shorter than usual (less than 2 months), the representative of the Kenda Project (42 hectares) was extremely concerned about the progress and requested the chairman to supervise the project in person to make up for the delays. Seeing the crisis as an opportunity, Tzu Yun recommended herself to the client as the "Daughter of Chairman Chien" and became responsible for the project. This was a busy time when the company was booming, with the PM Group project (12 hectares) across the road initializing at the same time. Tzu Yun led the project team and managed over 2,000 construction workers, working overtime round the clock for 6 months until project completion. Her persistence and dedication eventually won the client's satisfaction.

Tzu Yun shared, "When I first joined the company, I was afraid of being questioned or denied, and I focused too much on self-expression. I didn't realize what the real missions of a leader were until the sense of responsibility overcame my fears. After that, during the kick-off meeting of every project that I owned, I would ask the commander (superintendent) and the engineers to introduce themselves and sketch out their position relative to the commander in the project. 80% of the time, the organization chart drawn by the team was a triangle, with the commander placed at the top. In the other 20% of cases, the organization chart was a circle, and the commander placed in the center (the core position). Then I'd ask the commander to mark the position represented by Tzu Yun and explain. Approximately 60% of the commanders would mark me above themselves, 30% of them would mark me on the opposite side of the organization (i.e., the client's side), and 10% would put me in the core position. I'd then write my name next to the commander's position, making it clear that I would be by his side to support him and to assist the team in completing the project. "The teams always have stronger execution and better performance when they feel supported!" Gradually, the "Daughter of Chairman Chien" successfully delivered the third, fourth, up to the tenth project, and became the Senior Manager of the Ops Administrative Department who was well respected by the organization and favored by the clients. Tzu Yun led the operations team and accomplished nearly 20 construction projects, which included KUEN LING Machinery Refrigerating, TAICERA, BUENO Technology, KENDA Tire, PM GLOVES (PM Group), JINTEX Chemical, TAIWAN FLUORO, SHINGMARK Group, SAITE Battery, and other well-known enterprises.

In just five years, Chien Tzu Yun has secured her successor position with competence and team support. She was promoted again during the opening ceremony of the Ho Team Hai Phong branch in July 2020. She returned to work alongside her father as the Vice General Manager, responsible for business development at the core of the company. Chien Chih Ming, the chairman of Ho Team Construction, has always insisted on personally designing every project and supervising the construction quality, setting a good example for the organization. Tzu Yun scrupulously abides by her father's management principles: building customer trust with professionalism and continuously promoting the core values of Ho Team across the organization. The scope of business includes overall planning, architectural design, and other professional services in the field of construction and engineering. Tzu Yun believes that "Professionalism creates trust, trust builds relationships, and relationships are everything." This belief stems from family upbringing and NLP coach Naomei Wu. Ho Team Construction focuses on customer value proposition and enhances project benefits: integrating factory construction services, achieving high customization to meet client needs, solving problems (eliminating customer pain points), improving overall efficiency of construction projects with design expertise and experience, providing space planning, assisting in overall design and continuous optimization, recommending applicable technologies, and maximizing use of natural energy. Ho Team establishes common goals with the clients to create a win-win situation. Tzu Yun has extraordinary determination and perseverance for the future succession. Tzu Yun says, "Ho Team Construction pays special attention to hidden work, just like we continue to foster positive culture and core values of the company!"

The inherited persistence in construction and the sense of responsibility are clearly visible in this second generation. It is anticipated that new heights will be reached by the growing Tiger team. This year Chien Tzu Yun, representing Ho Team Construction Company, really deserves the Global Young Entrepreneur Star Award for her outstanding accomplishments.
