Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland, Australia, one of Australia's fastest growing cities. Brisbane has a population of 2.6 million, and it is expected that by the year 2036 there will be 3.3 million.
Brisbane possesses a subtropical, pleasant climate. The average annual temperature is between 15 to 25 degrees, quite similar to Taiwan. In the 1990s, large numbers of Taiwanese people moved to Australia. At present, the Taiwanese population living in Australia is about 50,000, of which about 60% live permanently in Australia and 40% rotate between living in Taiwan, Australia and other places.
Brisbane has a busy international port and airport, and, as a city, is very similar to Kaohsiung City. Brisbane and Kaohsiung signed a sister city relationship in 1997 and, to this day, both cities continue to deliver economic and social benefits to each other, including trade, investment, and business development, urban renewal and waterfront development, health and education services, tourism and city promotion, personnel exchange, and social and cultural connections.
