Guatemala, officially the Republic of Guatemala, is a country in Central America bordered by Mexico to the north and west, the Pacific Ocean to the southwest, Belize to the northeast, the Caribbean to the east, Honduras to the east and El Salvador to the southeast. With an estimated population of around 16.6 million, it is the most populated state in Central America. Guatemala is a representative democracy; its capital and largest city is Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción, also known as Guatemala City.
The overseas compatriot population in Guatemala is estimated to be 16,430, of which about 580 people in the area are Taiwanese immigrants. In order to make overseas compatriots get together to help each other, and be able to form close relationship among them, there are approximately 10 overseas compatriot associations of different attributes in the region. In addition, overseas compatriots in general take education affairs of the next generation particularly seriously. In the hope of promoting traditional Chinese characters and Taiwan’s diverse cultural learning, there are 2 overseas compatriot schools in the Guatemala in close collaboration with the OCAC to pass down the important cultural heritage of mankind.
