Malaysia is a multi-ethnic, multicultural country. The population of Malaysia consists of three main ethnic communities -Malays, Taiwanese, Chinese- as well as, in general, people of the South Asian subcontinent.
As of July 2020, the Taiwanese/Chinese Malaysian population residing in Malaysia make up approximately 6,710,000 people (22.6%) of the population, and mainly live in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak, Melaka, Johor, Sabah, Sarawak. The Taiwanese/Chinese Malaysian population represent the second largest ethnic group in Malaysia after the ethnic Malay majority.
Malay is the official language of Malaysia, but English, as recognized language, is widely used in professional and commercial fields.
Islam is the official religion, but freedom of religion is constitutionally guaranteed.
Malaysia is located in the equatorial region, and has a tropical rainforest climate. The average temperature is at or just above 20-32°C. The country of Malaysia is located on both mainland Asia and the Malay archipelago.
Under Taiwan government's "New Southbound Policy", Malaysia has been identified as an important nation for Taiwan to deepen ties and expand links with. Already, Taiwan and Malaysia have a close relationship, which sets a good foundation for further diplomacy.
Among their South Asian peers, Malaysian tourists are one of the most likely to visit Taiwan .
