Eswatini, officially the Kingdom of Eswatini, is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. After being granted independence in 1968, its government is an absolute monarchy, ruled by King Mswati III since 1986. Eswatini is a developing country with a small economy and suffers from severe poverty and high unemployment. Its main local trading partner is South Africa, from which it receives over 90% of its imports and to which it sends about 70% of its exports. In order to ensure economic stability, Eswatini's currency, the Lilangeni, is pegged to the South African Rand. Eswatini population faces major health issues: it has the world's highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rate and tuberculosis are widespread. It is estimated that 26% of the adult population is HIV-positive.
