Kaohsiung, May 17 (CNA) Kaohsiung Medical University's hospital and several nongovernment organizations donated Monday about NT$2 million (US$67,228) in funds and supplies to Polish organizations supporting Ukrainians fleeing to the country.

Almost three months into Russian's invasion of Ukraine, humanitarian aid is urgently needed to help Ukraine refugees, Chong Inn-wen (鍾飲文), superintendent of Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital, said at a virtual handover ceremony held.

The donation, raised by the hospital, the Taiwan Section of International College of Surgeons (ICS), and other NGOs in the city, showed Taiwan's determination to stand in solidarity with Ukraine, he said.

ICS President Kwan Aij-lie (關皚麗) said the relief supplies, which included blankets, clothing, food, and water, will be distributed with the help of the ICS' long-term partners in Poland to the many Polish cities providing shelter for Ukrainians displaced by the war.

In addition to the donations, the Kaohsiung hospital has also teamed up with hospitals in Poland to provide medical aid for the refugees, she said.
