Taiwan Electric Vehicle Industry Program for Overseas Compatriot Entrepreneurs 2023 work with local industry supply chain to expand business opportunities

OCAC Chief Secretary Liang-Ming Chang spoke at the farewell banquet, encouraging overseas Taiwanese businessmen to create new peaks for their businesses by expanding new business opportunities, and suggesting that they may start from participating more in exchanges and visits.

The OCAC-hosted 2023 Taiwan Electric Vehicle Industry Program held a business opportunity matching conference on April 13th, inviting a total of 29 overseas compatriot enterpreneurs from 16 countries to the event to engage in face to face negotations with 20 domestic electric vehicle operators. The OCAC Deputy Minister Jhao-Syong Ruan also attended the event, and encouraged overseas compatriot businesses to work hand in hand with local Taiwanese industries in expanding business opportunities.

Deputy Minister Ruan first experessed his apprceiations to all attending parties on behalf of Minister Chia-Ching Hsu, saying that, even in 2022 when global economy was in dire conditions due to the pandemic, Taiwan's economy was still able to hold on strong, due to the abundant research and development energy in Taiwan. Therefore, the OCAC invited local electric vehicle industry related operators to jointly host the business opportunity matching conference, through which might hopefully connect Taiwanese industry's R&D technology energy with its talent advantage and enhance overseas compatriots' competitiveness, while at the same time, also promote cooperation with local operators.

Deputy Minister Ruan also said that, even though the global pandemic has gradually eased, the global economy is still struggling from its impacts. Last yeaer, Overseas Credit Guarantee Fund assisted overseas compatriots businesses with finances adding up to USD322.86 million, out of which New Southbound countries accounted for USD288.08 million. He also stated that the OCAC-established Overseas Credit Guarantee Fund has extended the COVID-19 Disease Relief Program application date from December 2022 to April 2023, aiming to assist overseas business compatriots in maintain sustainable development in their businesses. Deputy Minister Ruan encouraged all attending parties to take full advantage of the funds.

Honorary President Willis Yang of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Latin America (TCCLA) announced at the event that, through the Program and the business opportunties matching conference, an initial agreement has been made with Tron Energy Technology Corporation to sign contracts with Ecuador to jointly invest USD 6 million in the establishment of an electric buses factory, which will then systematically introduce Taiwan's electric vehicle technologies and services, and also mark Taiwan's electric car industry's first step into the South American market. Yang also praised the OCAC's arrangements, saying that the Program agenda was packed and brought about more rewards than expected. He expressed his recognition of the sophisticated technologies and high quality control in Taiwanese industries, and stated that the electric vehicles market development relies not only on sophisticated technologies but also on government policies and support; with both in place, it would help Taiwanese electric vehicle products establish foundations in Ecuador and position itself into the South American market.

Vice President Wei-cheng Cho of Tron Energy Technology Corporation affirmed the benefits brought about by the Program to the local electric vehicles industry, stressing especially the close cooperation with compatriot businesses, saying that bond would be greatly beneficial to expansion of the overseas market. Vice President Cho also stated that there are business opportunities for expanding the electric vehicle industry all around the world, and that Taiwan's greatest advantage was in the strong consolidation between technology and industry. He said that, cooperation between Tron Energy Technology and Ecuador will start from the public transportations sector, and will gradually introduce Taiwan's superb electric buses to the Ecuador society to provide its people with the deserved secure and clean transportation experience.  

The 2023 Taiwan Electric Vehicle Industry Program was hosted by Kun Shan University, the agenda was carried throughout the period between April 10th to 13th, including calls on the Industrial Development Administration of the MOEA, visits to 8 local relevant companies, attendance at the 2023 E-Mobility Taiwan Show, and participation at the business opportunities matching conference on the 13th, where attending businesses and overseas compatriots interacted enthusiastically. A farewell party was also held on the evening of the 13th, successfully concluding the 2023 Taiwan Electric Vehicle Industry Program.
