The California Los Angeles Chapter of the Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA-LA) held its Fall picnic social event on October 2. It is almost 40 years since the FAPA was established in Los Angeles. In the early days it was concerned about the development of democracy in Taiwan and the overseas black list, while today it focuses on Taiwanese-American human rights, US politics and Taiwan-US relations. It played an important role in the process of the democratization of Taiwan. Taiwan is now a fully free and democratic and the FAPA has established the Milk Tea Alliance with Asian countries in the Taiwan region that, based on the same democratic core values, care about unfair treatment in Asia.

FAPA-LA president Tony Lee said it has always attached importance to enhancing contacts with California state senators and representatives to increase the power of US support for Taiwan and speak out for Taiwan. At the same time, the FAPA-LA cooperates with US mainstream society and associations of different ethnic groups, focusing attention on human rights issues and raising Taiwan’s international profile.
